During this stage, toddlers are exploring their worlds and continue to organize activities in relation to their environment. Key developmental tasks at this stage are locomotion and toilet training. Fine motor skills are starting to develop and toddlers start to build towers, turn pages, and fold paper. They are beginning to engage in more self-care activities like holding a spoon, drinking from a cup, or opening a door.
Verbal communication begins in earnest during this stage. Words start to link into short sentences. Toddlers have an excellent understanding of "mine" (pretty much everything) versus "yours." Another frequently used word is "no."
